LockIn Privacy Policy

Overview

LockIn is a local-first study app that helps users organize their own documents, and create notes, highlights, flashcards, multiple-choice questions, study guides, and practice tests.

LockIn is designed so users stay in control of their own study material. The app does not include official source documents, department materials, copyrighted manuals, or paid exam-prep content. Users choose what they upload and are responsible for using documents they have permission to use.

Information Stored On The User's Device

LockIn may store the following information locally on the user's device:

Account And Sync

Sign in with Apple may be used for local identity and private iCloud sync between a user's Apple devices. LockIn does not create a developer-hosted account.

iCloud sync may be used for private app data, such as:

This iCloud data is stored through the user's Apple/iCloud account. LockIn does not operate a developer-hosted cloud account for this data. Backup / Restore is also available for user-controlled exports.

Friends And Messaging

LockIn's optional friend feature lets a user connect with another LockIn user they invite directly (via a link they share themselves). Messages and study challenges sent between connected friends are transmitted through the user's own private iCloud account (via CloudKit shared zones) and are not visible to LockIn's developer. Friend connections can be removed at any time, which also stops future messages and challenges between those users.

AI Features

AI features are optional.

LockIn does not ship with a developer-owned AI API key. If a user wants to use AI features, the user must add their own API key and manage their own usage, billing, and limits through their API provider.

When AI is enabled by the user, selected text or user-provided study material may be sent to the user's selected AI provider to generate draft flashcards, questions, or other study material. Users should review AI-generated material before saving or studying it.

Camera And Document Scanning

Camera access is used only when the user chooses to scan a document into the app. Scanned pages are processed on-device (including on-device text recognition) to produce a searchable PDF. The camera is not used in the background.

Sharing And Exports

Users can export backups, study packs, tests, or PDFs through Apple share tools such as Messages, Mail, AirDrop, or Files.

LockIn does not automatically attach or share private PDFs. Users should not share source documents unless they own the rights or have permission to share them.

Tracking And Advertising

LockIn does not use third-party advertising.

LockIn does not track users across apps or websites.

Data Deletion

Users can delete documents, categories, study material, notes, and other content inside the app where deletion tools are available.

Users can also use Delete Local App Data inside LockIn to wipe local PDFs, PDF markup, notes, flashcards, questions, study packs, progress, settings, study history, badges, source links, and other app-created local data where safe. This does not delete the user's Apple ID or iCloud account.

Users can also remove local app data by deleting the app from their device. iCloud data, if enabled, may need to be managed through the user's Apple ID and iCloud settings.

Children's Privacy

LockIn is intended for study and exam preparation. It is not directed toward children under 13.

Changes To This Policy

This policy may be updated as LockIn adds or changes account, sync, sharing, AI, or subscription features.
